2015 SkillsUSA Leadership Conference

Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School students along with Mr. Robidoux, Mrs. Boisvert, and Mrs. Pepin participated in the annual SkillsUSA Fall State Leadership Conference on November 22-24, 2015. This annual event was held at the Best Western Hotel & conference center in Marlborough Massachusetts.

BCC Admissions Update!

Bristol Community College will conducting on-site admissions at Old Colony on December 10th. Any student who is interested in applying for Fall 2016 admission should stop by the guidance Office for an application.

Bullying and Cyberbullying Surveys

During the next two weeks, we will be conducting a survey of faculty, students, and parents about bullying and cyberbullying that may occur in and out of our school.  MA Dept. of Education requires that we do this at least every 4 years.   Please click on the link below to take the 5 minute survey. into your web browser to take this online survey, which only takes about 5 minutes to complete, and the results will be shared in a future newsletter. Your results are anonymous and will be sent to both Old Colony, as well as the MA Aggression Reduction Center, which is located at Bridgewater State University. We would appreciate it if you complete this survey by 12/11/15.

Frosty Runner Road Race is back! 10 Mile Run & 3.1 Mile Walk/Run. Saturday, January 23, 2016


Start and Finish: All races begin and end at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, 476 North Avenue, Rochester, MA 02770

Career Awareness Days – Open House and Tour

Career Awareness Days – Open House and Tour

Come and take a look at all that Old Colony has to offer for students and their families.  Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School will be presenting Career Awareness Days for Eighth Grade students residing in Acushnet, Carver, Freetown, Lakeville, Mattapoisett and Rochester during the school day on Monday, 11/2/15, Wednesday, 11/4/15, and Thursday, 11/5/15.   Students will receive a tour of the school, including all vocational/technical classrooms, refreshments, and meet with currently enrolled Old Colony students.  Interested students should contact their guidance counselors for more information on attending Old Colony’s Career Awareness Days.

Parents and families are invited to tour the school on Sunday morning, 11/8/15, from 10 AM until noon. Vocational, academic and extra-curricular activities will be represented with displays and presentations throughout the building.  Please come and see for yourself the many opportunities Old Colony has to offer! No reservation required.

Scholarship Deadlines Approaching! (October 2015)

Below are four scholarships valued at more than $250K that have
deadlines approaching.

1. Horatio Alger Scholarship – $5,000 – 50 Awards (Deadline: October 25, 2015)

Student Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs,
applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the United States,
progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2014 with
plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall
following graduation.

2. Good360 Sustainability Scholarship – $1,000 – 1 Award (Deadline:
November 30, 2015)

Student Eligibility:

We want to hear how sustainability has touched your life. If you?re a
high school senior applying to college, or you?re currently a college
student, and you have an interest in sustainability and the
environment, then we?d love to hear your thoughts on what
sustainability means to you. Thus, we?re sponsoring a college
scholarship with an award of $1,000 to go towards tuition.

3. Flosum Scholarship – $750 – 1 Award (Deadline: December 15, 2015)

Student Eligibility:

1. The applicants must be enrolled in an accredited 4-year university
or college located in United States;

2. Graduating high school seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or above are also
eligible to apply for the scholarship;

4. Points Scholarship – $10,000 – 10 Awards (Deadline: November 3, 2015)

Student Eligibility:

A) Be at least 13 years old and enrolled or will enroll in a college
or university in the US.

B) Be a legal resident of the U.S. or Puerto Rico.

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help
young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an
annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are
eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are
participating in.
Deadline – June 17, 2016 Amount of Award –
$500.00 /The successful applicant will be a high school senior or
be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in

Old Colony Night Games!


Saturday Night Football Game!
On Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 6 p.m., the Old Colony football team will host West
Bridgewater. This is the third night football game in the school’s history! Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for students. Come and join the excitement!


Night Soccer Games!
On Wednesday, October 28, 2015, the girls’ soccer team will host Southeastern at 5 p.m., and the boys’ soccer team will host Blue Hills at 6:30 p.m. at Greater New Bedford Voc Tech.   Come and join the excitement!

ALICE practice drill

All Old Colony staff and students participated in a full ALICE practice drill today (either lockdown/shelter-in-place/barricade or evacuated and reunified outside the building). This drill was led in partnership with the Rochester Police Department and two certified trainers employed at Old Colony RVTHS. The ALICE training offers school districts options that mitigate liability, assume less risk, and, most importantly, equip the staff and students with life-saving skills.

Athletic Dept. has been a recognized by the MSSADA!

The Athletic Department is proud to announce that our student-athletes and
Athletic Dept.  have been a recognized by the MSSADA  District D Athletic
Directors Association.  We have been selected as the representative for the
District Sportsmanship Award for the 2014-2015 school year.  Old Colony was
selected as the top school of the 45 schools in our district.  This award is
a credit to each student-athlete, coach, staff member and parents who
demonstrate and exemplify the principles of sportsmanship.  Special thank
you to Paul Soucy and Cydney Girard who presented on behalf of Old Colony
Athletics.  Congratulations on this fantastic honor.  Go Cougars!

SchoolBrains coming soon!

Old Colony is transitioning to a new student information system called SchoolBrains. We are in the process of  preparing a data validation for parents  to review that data for  their  child and sign off.  Once we have all of the data confirmed we will send  out  directions to parents and students on how to access  SchoolBrains.  We  hope to do this in early October.  We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition.
