Samantha Clarke, a senior at Old Colony, has been selected to receive a 2006-2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Service Award. This national award program is jointly sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Prudential Insurance Company. Samantha is now eligible for state and national recognition.
A Freetown resident, Samantha was nominated for the award for her work in both the community and school. She was elected by her peers to serve as President of the Chapter of the National Honor Society. She is also involved with Peer Leadership and serves as Chair of the Student Advisory Council to the School Committee.
Upon graduation from the Old Colony Culinary Arts Program in June, Samantha will pursue a degree in the culinary field, building upon the skills she developed in high school. Samantha plans to major in baking and pastry arts and hopes to some day own her own business.
Samantha will receive a cash award and a framed certificate in recognition of her nomination for the Prudential Spirit of Community Service Award at the November Old Colony District Committee meeting.
Three other Old Colony students will also receive a “Certificate of Merit” in this award program. They are: Jeffrey Cormier (Acushnet), Janelle Gifford (Acushnet), and Michael Ricardo (Carver).
