NHS member nominated for scholarship

Brandon Duarte, an Old Colony senior and member of the Old Colony Chapter of the National Honor Society has been nominated to compete in the National Honor Society scholarship sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Two hundred national NHS winners will be chosen this spring to receive $1,000 college scholarships. Nominees from each high school’s National Honor Society chapter were selected based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience, and academic record. They also were required to write an essay.

Brandon was inducted into the National Honor Society and currently serves as its secretary. A resident of Acushnet and a student in the Computer Information Technology department, Brandon has demonstrated excellent achievement in his academic work and service to his school and community.

The National Honor Society (NHS) and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation’s premier organization recognizing outstanding middle level and high school students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.
