MCAS

The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) is designed to meet the requirements of the 1993 Massachusetts Education Reform Law, state law M.G.L. Chapter 69, section 11. This law mandates that all students in the tested grades who are educated with Massachusetts public funds participate in MCAS. Participation in the MCAS is required by federal and state law. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's accountability system will continue to use assessment participation rates (and the resulting achievement and growth data) in its annual determinations made through the district and school accountability system.
