Last month, 45 Old Colony students attended a financial literacy rally sponsored by the Basketball Hall of Fame, www.goodpayer.com, and the Boston Celtics. The rally was attended by multiple schools from across the Commonwealth. The event encouraged and educated students on how to make good financial decisions relative to paying bills on time, building wealth, managing credit, building a good credit score, and other financial savvy decisions and topics.
Part of the rally took on a game show theme where schools competed against one another and were awarded prizes based on their answers to the financial questions asked. Old Colony did very well in the competition.
The highlight of the rally was guest speaker and Boston Celtic legend, Robert ‘Chief’ Parish. The students were in awe as he walked through the group to his seat. He spoke on the importance of living within your means financially and how many professional athletes sadly have to work in their later years even after earning millions of dollars during their basketball careers and all because of their poor financial decisions.
After the rally, the students watched the Celtics and Raptors in an NBA game at the TD BankNorth Garden.
