Walter J. Markham Award

Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School has been named the recipient of the 2017-2018 Division II Walter J. Markham Award as part of the Boston Globe’s Scholastic Awards, which go to schools with the best win-loss records in athletic competition. This is a firstĀ for Old Colony.

In 2017-2018, Old Colony athletic teams won 58.61% of all athletic contests. Old Colony boasted a Fall Season record of 46-51-3; a Winter Season record of 25-12-0; and a Spring Season record of 50-22-0; with an overall record of 121-85-3.

Established in 1997, the award is named for Walter Markham, a native of Lowell who initiated the state’s regional vocational and technical high schools and served as president and treasurer of the American Vocational Association.
